Geocache
You can find the cache while standing on the sidewalk, so please stay on the sidewalk.
It is NOT at the crucifix, NOT in the shrubs and NOT in the hedge!
Some keys might be handy to be able to log the cache.

Crucifix
We are standing at the corner of Klinkertstraat and Overbroekerstraat in front of a crucifix. This crucifix is placed in 1871, as stated on the crucifix, on the occasion of the birth of one of the children of the owners, family Snijders, of the behind the crucifix located half-timbered house at Klinkertstraat 16. The crucifix still belongs to the house.
The crucifix is originally placed on a block of marlstone. At the end of the eighties this is replaced by a base of veldbrandstone. The cross and corpus are renovated at the same time and two linden trees were placed behind the crucifix.

Half-timbered house
Half-timbering, also known as timber framing or post-and-beam construction, is a method of creating structures using squared off and carefully fitted and joined timbers with joints secured by large pegs. The open spaces in between the timbers were filled with wickerwork made of, for example, branches of willows and filled with a mixture of clay and straw. In later times also bricks are used to fill the open spaces.

Sloertsgoed
The half-timbered house at Klinkertstraat 16, which bears the name 'Sloertsgoed', is almost entirely rebuild in seventies of the previous century. The mixture of clay and straw and the willow branches were removed and the house was completely stripped off. The wooden frame stayed completely intact en dates from the late 18th century. The open spaces are now filled with bricks.

The house has had multiple destinations in the past. In about 1850 a private school was opened for the children of the neighbourhood. It carried the name: 'De Sloort'. Teacher Snijders was, among others, head of the school.
Also a school of shoemakers has been located here. During the rebuilding several practice materials were found in between the ceilings.
Also a nice curiosity was found. At the attic, on a small ridge in between the outer wall and the roof a cymbal was found. The attic served as the rehearsal room of the concert band Harmonie St. Caecilia of Hoensbroek at the end of the 19th century. The cymbal must have fallen onto the ridge during one of the rehearsels and stayed there for over 70 years.
